If you’re not ready to trade in your name-brand household cleaners for homemade baking soda-vinegar-lemon juice concoctions, New Soap, Old Bottle has a surprisingly simple way to be a greener cleaner. The company purchases Windex, Formula 409, Dial liquid soap, etc. in bulk and fills used and sanitized soda and beer bottles with the cleansers. They attach their soda bottle-adapted tops (pumps, spray heads, simple caps), and voila! Windex is suddenly a little less hard on the environment.
They’ll be adding Seventh Generation options soon, shipping and prices are reasonable (in the $3-$4 range) and you can buy just the specially designed tops for DIY reusing. Think of it as a manageable step toward a truly green cleaning closet.
